Alexander Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine worked at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London for over 26 years, during this time he spent a period of time at Harvard Medical School looking at caused of cardiovascular diseases and a year at Johns Hopkins Medical School looking at treatment of liver. He published more than 647 peer-reviewed research papers, and registered 14 UK and International patents. He is currently CEO of NanoRegMed Ltd, working on the commercialisation of his research. During his career Prof Seifalian has led and managed many large projects with successful outcomes in terms of commercialisation and translation to patients. In 2007 he was awarded the top prize in the field for the development of nanomaterials and technologies for cardiovascular implants by Medical Future Innovation, and in 2009 he received a Business Innovation Award from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). He was the European Life Science Awards Winner of Most Innovative New Product 2012 for the synthetic trachea. Prof Seifalian won the Nanosmat Prize in 2013 and in 2016 he received the Distinguish Research Award in recognition of his outstanding work in regenerative medicine from Heals Healthy Life Extension Society. His achievements include development of the world first synthetic trachea, lacrimal drainage conduit, and vascular bypass graft using nanocomposite materials, bioactive molecules and stem cell technology. He has over 15,000 media report from his achievement, include BBC, ITV, WSJ, CNN, and many more. Currently he is working on development and commercialisation of human organs using graphene based nanocomposite materials and stem cells technology.

Nanomaterials for Medicine, Nanomaterials for Marine Applications

His main research interests are focused on the recovery of value-added compounds, particularly phenolic antioxidants and natural antimicrobial agents, from agroindustrial wastes. His research is also aimed at using the recovered compounds to produce new functional food products and at finding environmentally friendly solutions for the disposal and exploitation of agro-industrial wastes. Another important research line is about the production of magnetic nanoparticles to obtain new bioadsorbents, effective and easy to remove. In recent years he focused his attention to microalgae in order to improve o develop new processes to increase the extraction yields of lipids and other value added compounds. The important results are obtained through robust scientific approach and the application of methods of sequential experimentation, based on the screening of the main process factors followed by the factorial design. Recently, the Response Surface Methodology is evaluated together with multilayer neural networks of feedforward type applied to processes of recovery bioactive compounds from wastes. He is the author of over 70 scientific publications in the biochemical and food engineering sector and co-author of four industrial patents. He received several awards and prizes in competitions sponsored by chemical engineering and other associations.

Jim P. Zheng is a Professor and Sprint Eminent Scholar Chair at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Florida A&M University and Florida State University, Adjunct Chair Professor at the College of Automobile Engineering of Tongji University, Adjunct Professor at the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is the recipient of National Academy of Inventors Fellow, National Research Council Fellow, Army Research & Development Achievement Award, NASA Faculty Research Award, and Progress Energy Professional Development Award. He has published more than 150 articles in scholarly journals, and 140 papers in conference proceedings in the fields of energy storage, fuel cells, nano-sensors, photonics, and thin film growth, and been awarded 18 patents, and 5 patents have been licensed by a private companies. He is the founder of General Capacitor LLC and a co-founder of Bing Energy International Inc.
